Back by popular demand! Allison R. Clapp, Esq., will discuss planning strategies for making charitable gifts in a way that is tax-efficient, examining the income tax and estate tax advantages of structuring a gift using a split-interest trust. The presentation will provide basic information about charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, and pooled income funds and discuss fact patterns where these vehicles may be useful. Ms. Clapp will also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of donor-advised funds and private foundations. The presentation will incorporate a discussion of recent legislation relate to decanting in Maryland as well as proposed legislation that may be on the horizon for donor-advised funds.

Allison is trusts and estates lawyer with Stewart, Plant & Blumenthal, LLC, in Baltimore. She previously worked as an associate for Venable LLP and interned for Judge Rudolph Contreras of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Ms. Clapp obtained her J.D., magna cum laude, from the Georgetown University Law Center, and her B.A., summa cum laude, from Grove City College.
