Lisa Chmiola, M.S., CFRE, CSPG
Lisa has more than 22 years in philanthropic development. Currently the Director of Gift Planning for the University of Missouri-St. Louis, she has served in major gifts and gift planning roles in education [public and private] and religious institutions, following initial career experience in event-based philanthropy. She also serves as the Chief Fablanthropist for Fablanthropy [the intersection of fabulous and philanthropy], working with nonprofit organizations and fundraising professionals providing consulting, training, and coaching services, particularly on legacy giving strategies.
An AFP Certified Facilitator since 2014 and TEDx speaker, Lisa has presented at five AFP International Conferences, and a variety of AFP and other industry association regional conferences, chapter meetings, and webinars. Lisa is an active volunteer, serving as chair of the AFP Global U.S. Government Relations committee and member of the AFP PAC board, as a past National Association of Charitable Gift Planners board member [and past president of the Houston chapter], as a Junior League sustainer, and is a graduate of Leadership Houston. Additionally, she has co-authored several pieces for AFP's Advancing Philanthropy magazine.
Tiffanie Purvis
Tiffanie joined the Greater Washington Community Foundation in January 2023 as its General Counsel and Senior Philanthropic Advisor. In this role, she handles general legal matters for The Community Foundation and works with professional advisors and donors to craft and achieve philanthropic solutions and strategies. Additionally, Tiffanie educates professionals on charitable giving with a specialization in gift-planning strategies, manages The Community Foundation's Legacy Giving and Nonprofit Endowment Programs and oversees The Community Foundation's Professional Advisors Council.
Before joining The Community Foundation, Tiffanie held positions at the Southern Poverty Law Center and the University of Maryland, College Park, where her work focused on charitable gift-planning strategies, which resulted in her raising millions for her perspective organizations by leveraging blended gift strategies and working collaboratively with advisors and donors.
Phil Purcell
Phil has enjoyed a thirty-year career in planned giving and as counsel to nonprofits. He currently serves as the Director of Planned Giving for the Central Territory of the Salvation Army. In this role, he is the directional leader of over thirty planned giving officers in eleven states who close approximately $70 million in planned gifts each year.
Phil is an attorney and member of the American and Indiana State Bar Associations. He serves as Editor for Planned Giving Today, a monthly national publication. He is legal advisor for the Community Foundation Legal Help Desk, a national online subscription service. Phil serves as counsel to Philanthropy Ohio. Phil teaches law of nonprofits organizations, law philanthropy, and planned giving fundraising for the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, Lilly School of Philanthropic Studies.
Phil serves as Vice Chair of the American Bar Association's Charitable Giving and Organizations Group [Real Property, Trust and Estate Section] and is a ember of the Tax-Exempt Organization Advisory Council for the Internal Revenue Service [Great Lakes states].
